16 GB iPhone coming next month?

Steve Jobs was expected to unveil a 16GB version for the same price as an 8GB, during his keynote speech at the annual MacWorld Expo in San Francisco.

Acording to www.telegraph.co.uk, that move would infuriate Apple fans who only two months ago queued through the night in the rain to be among the first in the UK to get their hands on the iPhone.

In experts’ opinion Apple’s CEO would not risk infuriating British customers in a similar way as he did in US.
His decision to reduce the cost of the device by $200 within weeks of its release in the US resulted in thousands of furious emails from people who had paid the full price. After that Mr Jobs apologised and promised to give credit notes to customers who had missed out on the discount.

Though, he also told customers: “This is life in the technology lane. If you always wait for the next price cut or to buy the new improved model, you’ll never buy any technology product because there is always something better and less expensive on the horizon.”

This is how Ben Woodthe, director of research at CCS Insight commented on possible launch of an 16GB iPhone by Steve Jobs: “If he does announce an increase in storage space, it will of course be a disappointment for people queued up for hours to get an iPhone. But it’s not the same as cutting the cost of the handset. I don’t think he would make that mistake again.”

As TechDigest reports, Steve Jobs has not announced Apple’s 16GB iPhone during yesterday’s speech at MacWorld Expo. The announcement of an iPhone with bigger storage capacity is more likely to happen next week, together with the launch of the SDK.
