Buddy Finder by Navizon, for the iPhone (GPS!)

Previously, Navizon had released a program that allowed the iPhone to be used as an assisted GPS (A-GPS), and it was welcomed warmly.

Recently they released a new version featuring Buddy Finder, which allows you to easily locate friends that are simply added by email. Navizon works by searching for WiFi hotspots and cellular towers and relaying where you are in relation.

Navizon

Since the iPhone doesn’t actually have GPS, this is the best alternative thus far. Navizon works through Google Maps so it’s also pretty safe, as well as detailed. There is a 15 day free trial available, or if you wish to purchase it, it costs $24.95. You can get either from Navizon here.

iPhone Becomes Best in Sales for AT&T

This is probably based on how happy the majority of people are with the iPhone, as we previously reported here, it’s rather popular.

Strategy Analytics’ ProductTRAX program reports nearly 1.1 million iPhones being purchased in the U.S. alone, for the 3rd quarter of this year, or a total of 1.325 million if you count since it’s release date. Imagine around the world, or even Canada if a retailer got their hands on it, ontop of this.

“The iPhone has become AT&T’s top selling device, commanding some 13 percent of AT&T’s overall handset sales, and the 4th top selling handset in the US market,” says Barry Gilbert, VP of Strategy Analytics BuyerTRAX and it’s programs.

Although with such high numbers, the iPhone is indeed not the best selling handset on the market. The Motorola RAZR v3 is top-dog right now, but is reportedly losing it’s grasp due to the lifespan of new technology these days.

Mr. Gilbert says, “Although the iPhone hasn’t had an expansionary impact in the market, the iPhone has quickly assumed a leading market share position and raised the ante for smart devices,” and went on to say, “The sales trajectory we are observing with the iPhone could make it the top selling device in the US over the next 1-2 quarters.”

We may see the iPhone top the market soon, but if it does, it probably won’t last long.

Remote Developer Access Coming for iPhone

Previously it was required that developers had to directly work on an iPhone to create apps and such, but now it’s possible to work from a computer without having an iPhone directly infront of you, while creating and testing websites or programs from the keyboard of your computer.

The iPhone was added to Mobile Complete’s DeviceAnywhere support list of over 750 mobile devices that are now accessible outside of the actual device. Faraz Syed, CEO of Mobile Complete, had this to say: “The iPhone is obviously a very hot device, and a lot of people want to build for it,” and there is no doubt about this fact.

“The iPhone is likely to be the destination for a variety of applications and games, including social networking and media-sharing applications,” said Syed. “I’m expecting a lot of those to show up on the iPhone,” he continued.

The program itself, for computers, allows access while the mobile unit is actually connected to a network and allows full functionality, regardless of having it in your hands or not. DeviceAnywhere is subscription based, and costs $18 per month of use.

High Satisfaction Rate for the Apple iPhone

Despite being out only 3 months, the iPhone has managed to top the charts in satisfaction, and, according to this survey, it’s almost twice as popular as Research-In-Motion’s brand of cellphones. In this press release from ChangeWave Research it’s proven that Apple’s really delivered a solid device with our beloved iPhone.

A total of 3,654 Alliance members participated in the survey, which looked at key market share changes among the major cell phone manufacturers and service providers — and found that while the iPhone’s been on the shelf just three months its impact is already being felt industry-wide. Apple’s current cell phone market share among respondents rose to 2% in this survey, double ChangeWave’s last cell phone survey in July - solid growth that’s in line with previous expectations.

But the most striking finding of the survey is the iPhone’s outstanding customer satisfaction rating. An unprecedented 82% of iPhone owners reported being Very Satisfied with their purchase, up 5-points since our previous survey in July and by far the highest rating of any cellular manufacturer.

At the other end of the spectrum, Motorola (33%) was next to last among cellular manufacturers in customer satisfaction, with Sony/Ericsson (31%) at rock bottom. Focusing on the future, it’s when we asked respondents about their planned cell phone purchases that the iPhone marketplace transformation becomes fully apparent. Going forward, ChangeWave finds an astonishing 16% of respondents who plan to purchase a cell phone in the next six months saying they’ll buy an iPhone — placing Apple up at the top among all manufacturers.

Importantly, while the number of European and Canadian respondents in the survey wasn’t large enough to draw final conclusions, the iPhone appears set for a stellar debut when it launches in the coming months in Europe and Canada.

“There’s no longer any doubt about the staying power of the iPhone,”
said Tobin Smith, founder of ChangeWave Research and editor of ChangeWave Investing, who added, “The continuing embrace of the iPhone by the public is a stellar example of how a new product can forever alter its own playing field.”

In other findings, after a long and horrendous slide, Motorola’s future planned purchases (15%; up 1-pt), appear to be bottoming for the first time in a year. Note, however, that ChangeWave surveys throughout 2007 have shown Motorola to be the manufacturer hurt most by the iPhone, and the current survey results continue to support that finding.

In terms of current market share, both Verizon (30%) and AT&T (29%) have each gained 1-point since a previous survey in July. For AT&T — the iPhone’s exclusive service provider in the U.S. — this is the third survey in a row that they’ve racked up a 1-pt gain.

Looking ahead, after the initial wave of excitement for the iPhone, planned future demand for AT&T — while still historically high — is returning to more normal levels. Among respondents who plan to switch carriers over the next six months, a total of 23% say they’ll go with AT&T — a full 7-points lower than the July survey.

Importantly, Verizon customers continue to give their company the highest satisfaction rankings in the industry, even as lower satisfaction ratings continue to plague AT&T. We note that previous surveys have identified the speed of the AT&T network as the top complaint among users.
