Written by Chris Scott Barr
If you had been an Apple employee for more than a year prior to the launch of the iPhone, you were doing pretty good. There?s not much better than getting a free iPhone. Then came that nice $100 rebate for early adopters, which you may ...

Buddy Finder by Navizon, for the iPhone (GPS!)

Previously, Navizon had released a program that allowed the iPhone to be used as an assisted GPS (A-GPS), and it was welcomed warmly.

Recently they released a new version featuring Buddy Finder, which allows you to easily locate friends that are simply added by email. Navizon works by searching for WiFi hotspots and cellular towers and relaying where you are in relation.

Navizon

Since the iPhone doesn’t actually have GPS, this is the best alternative thus far. Navizon works through Google Maps so it’s also pretty safe, as well as detailed. There is a 15 day free trial available, or if you wish to purchase it, it costs $24.95. You can get either from Navizon here.

Fix for iPhone earphone issue

gunk2.jpgAlan Luckow felt like he’d made too many trips to his local Apple Store to fix an iPhone annoyance. Specifically, the iPhone’s handset stopped working and he could use it only when wearing his earbuds or Bluetooth headset.

Rather than make one more trip, he came up with a solution of his own. You can view his entertaining and likely helpful solution here.

Warning: His solution (and the solution he uses) looks safe enough, but Apple’s Warranty Department may feel differently. In short: You’re on your own.

iPhone Becomes Best in Sales for AT&T

This is probably based on how happy the majority of people are with the iPhone, as we previously reported here, it’s rather popular.

Strategy Analytics’ ProductTRAX program reports nearly 1.1 million iPhones being purchased in the U.S. alone, for the 3rd quarter of this year, or a total of 1.325 million if you count since it’s release date. Imagine around the world, or even Canada if a retailer got their hands on it, ontop of this.

“The iPhone has become AT&T’s top selling device, commanding some 13 percent of AT&T’s overall handset sales, and the 4th top selling handset in the US market,” says Barry Gilbert, VP of Strategy Analytics BuyerTRAX and it’s programs.

Although with such high numbers, the iPhone is indeed not the best selling handset on the market. The Motorola RAZR v3 is top-dog right now, but is reportedly losing it’s grasp due to the lifespan of new technology these days.

Mr. Gilbert says, “Although the iPhone hasn’t had an expansionary impact in the market, the iPhone has quickly assumed a leading market share position and raised the ante for smart devices,” and went on to say, “The sales trajectory we are observing with the iPhone could make it the top selling device in the US over the next 1-2 quarters.”

We may see the iPhone top the market soon, but if it does, it probably won’t last long.

Remote Developer Access Coming for iPhone

Previously it was required that developers had to directly work on an iPhone to create apps and such, but now it’s possible to work from a computer without having an iPhone directly infront of you, while creating and testing websites or programs from the keyboard of your computer.

The iPhone was added to Mobile Complete’s DeviceAnywhere support list of over 750 mobile devices that are now accessible outside of the actual device. Faraz Syed, CEO of Mobile Complete, had this to say: “The iPhone is obviously a very hot device, and a lot of people want to build for it,” and there is no doubt about this fact.

“The iPhone is likely to be the destination for a variety of applications and games, including social networking and media-sharing applications,” said Syed. “I’m expecting a lot of those to show up on the iPhone,” he continued.

The program itself, for computers, allows access while the mobile unit is actually connected to a network and allows full functionality, regardless of having it in your hands or not. DeviceAnywhere is subscription based, and costs $18 per month of use.
