Previously, it was released by Greenpeace, that the iPhone had ‘Phthalates’ as well as ‘Brominated flame retardants’, and it’s internal parts deemed hazardous. We covered this previously, here.
Well, now the BSEF, or Bromine Science and Environmental Forum, are counter-claiming that Greenpeace’s conclusions were false. “…all of the substances reported by Greenpeace are approved for use, and provide critical performance and safety functions in a wide range of electronic products.” BSEF says in their report.

The report goes on to say “Among the substances reported by Greenpeace are brominated flame retardants (BFRs), which are commonly used in electronics to provide a high level fire safety – in certain applications, they are the most effective products available.” and goes on to say: The Greenpeace report does not say which BFRs are present in the iPhone because it does not know. As the report notes, the analytical equipment used for their report can only detect the presence of an element, such as bromine, but not specific chemicals.
There’s quite a bit of speculation, Apple even answered the Greenpeace report on the iPhone, previously.
The entire report was released this past Friday, and is available here.

Audi, a Germany-based car maker, is unveiling a new toy: the Audiphone, at the same time and place as it’s new car, the A1.
This new phone, while relatively bland looking, provides a few of the iPhone’s features, as well as what you’d expect from a car maker…the ability to start and find your car with the press of a button. It provides GPS, a touch-screen, MP3-player, and a navigation system, as well as a phone. The unveiling is planned for the upcoming Tokyo motor show.

I suppose when Apple entered the mobile phone market, it was demonstrated how easy it was to climb to the top with so many features; Hence, all the new competitors are attempting to cash in as well.
