iPhone Gameboy? Hackers Working on it

Just when you get tired of playing Gameboy games on your Mac or PC, you can make your portable not-so-gaming phone and make it into a modern version of the old gaming device.

The emulator, called gpSPhone, was released on Wednesday. The main problems with using this is that besides having to hack your iPhone to use it, you have to supply your own games and BIOS. The developers commented on the release: “There’s still some work to be done in terms of compatibility/performance, but it’s rapidly improving. And thanks to NerveGas, we now have a nice iPhone and iTouch GUI and sound is now outputted,”.

Compatibility is called upon being lower than usual, but many games are currently playable. Sound is another ‘kink’ as output is disabled, but it is being emulated, but it will be fixed soon and performance will increase when that’s fixed. The GUI and instructions were also pointed out to be lacking.

gpSPhone is available for the iPhone and iPod touch, and it also apparently works with the Sony PSP. Download is available on Installer.app, or we have a link to download directly here.

China Unicom Wants in on Asian iPhone Action too

Just a day after we covered the iPhone likely coming to China under its number-one provider, China Mobile Limited, China’s second most popular provider declared its interest in carrying the iPhone as well.

VP and Director of China Unicom, Li Zhengmao, told the media that sales are ‘going well’ in the mainland, and because of that, the company wants to start dealing with Apple. Though, he noted that China Unicom hasn’t directly discussed this with Apple, but is interested in it.

The iPhone is only available in China by way of imports and jailbroken devices. Prices for these imports went for around or below 4,000 CNY, and are usable on networks for both of the previously mentioned providers. We will continue to bring you coverage on the iPhone’s official arrival into Asia.
