CONFUSION: HACK..UNLOCK..JAILBREAK..What Else Is New?

Let me try to make some sense out of today. There's a ton of confusion out there (so what else is new). This is what is possible and what is not. GeoHot has created a software based unlock for 1.1.2 iPhones with the 4.6 bootloader. You can read his comments here. Thank you again GeoHot! He certainly deserves support for his efforts. GeoHot's unlock today is for 4.6 bootloaders only. It will unlock 1.1.2 iPhones out of the box (by downgrading to 1.1.1, et cetera), you could then use the Installer based 1.1.3 firmware update to get to 1.1.3 firmware, but you will still be on 04.02.13_G baseband. Follow? This unlock is not for 1.1.3 out of the box iPhones. It will however downgrade the baseband on the 1.1.3 from 04.03.13_G to 04.02.13_G and you can unlock that. You will always have a mismatch here: you can run 1.1.3 firmware, but you must use 1.1.2 baseband to get a phone signal. Until 1.1.4 comes out there is no secpack to crack to unlock 1.1.3 yet. So go raid your local Apple or AT&T store before Apple updates all the phones in the stores right now. They are literally hemorrhaging unlockable phones right now.

Zibri's unauthorized release of the next version of anySIM is for unlocking the 1.1.3 baseband, but only for 3.9 bootloaders. I have since posted my tutorial for taking a jailbroken 1.1.2 iPhone with the 4.6 bootloader and unlocking it. Both OS X and Windows users can use the same guide since it is all Installer based. I have a link for how to jailbreak 1.1.2 if you don't know how, it's a different tutorial (this currently exists only for OS X and Brief Windows users, but I'll work on a detailed Windows version or maybe make a hybrid guide). I'm also going to expand this unlocking guide by showing you how to continue up to 1.1.3 firmware so you can have your wiggly icons.

Finally! READ THIS CAREFULY

I have published a tutorial for new iPhones that came pre-loaded with 1.1.2 and 1.1.3 Firmware. The tutorial requires you start from a jailbroken 1.1.2 or 1.1.3. If you need to do that then click here for MAC and here for Windows.The unlock is designed to work with phones running the new 4.6 bootloader, so users on older iPhones should use anySIM instead.

Regardless of whether you want to use 1.1.2 or 1.1.3 firmware, you must start with a jailbroken 1.1.1. Downgrade instructions are available here and Jailbreak for 1.1.1 here (REMEMBER: DO NOT FOLLOW THE INSTUCTIONS TO UNLOCK ON "1.1.1 JAILBREAK" ONLY UP TO AND RIGHT AFTER JAILBREAKME. COM). How do i JAILBREAK/DOWNGRADE a 1.1.2 or 1.1.3 phone?

( MOSTLY WINDOWS )
Downgrade the main firmware:

1. Connect the phone to the computer and launch iTunes (v7.6 NOT recommended).
2. To enter recovery mode, connect the phone to the computer and press and hold the Power button (on top) and the Home button (on bottom front) simultaneously. After about 15 seconds phone will appear to turn off, release the Power button but keep holding the Home button. After about 15 seconds the computer and iTunes will detect the phone in recovery mode, and you can perform a restore. IMPORTANT: If you just click the restore button, it will restore it with the latest firmware. It's much safer to manually select firmware instead. If you want to manually select a different firmware you can hold down SHIFT key (Windows) or Option/ALT-key (Mac) when clicking the Restore button, and it will let you choose firmware file. Download the wanted firmware here (you would normally want 1.1.1).If you downgrade the firmware you will get an error when restore is complete, and phone will be stuck in recovery mode. To get it into normal mode, run AppTapInstaller.exe (or iNdependence if your're on a Mac).
3. You will get an error when restore is complete, just ignore it and run AppTapInstaller.exe (to Mac users: iNdependence should do the same.
4. AppTapInstaller.exe will fail, but your phone will get to the Activation Screen now!
5. When on the activation screen, just follow my tutorial to jailbreak and bypass activation.

Unlocking a jailbroken 1.1.2 iPhone (4.6 bootloader)
(intel Mac & Windows XP / Vista)

What I used: brand new (jailbroken) iPhone with 1.1.2 firmware, 04.02.13_G modem, and the 4.6_M3S2 bootloader. Thanks to GeoHot, the iPhone community can now unlock their iPhones with 1.1.2 firmware (I hear this works on 1.1.3 as well) and the new 4.6 bootloader. If you do not know how to jailbreak 1.1.2 firmware(Mac) read this tutorial.
If you do not know how to jailbreak 1.1.2 or 1.1.3 firmware(Windows) read this tutorial

1. After you have jailbroken your iPhone on 1.1.2 firmware and verified you have the 4.6 bootloader, press Settings, General, Auto-Lock and make sure it is set to Never. Launch the Installer and go to the Sources folder.
2. If you haven't already, install Community Sources. Now press the All Packages folder.
3. Press Bigboss's Beta/Experi... Install it. Scroll back down to the Unlocking Tools folder
4. Press Geohots Gunlock Script. Install it. Next, go to the System folder and install BSD Subsystem.
5. You can also find Term-vt100 in the System folder. Install it. Now press the Home button to relaunch the Springboard. Press Settings, then turn on Airplane Mode.
6. Press the Home button and launch the Terminal on the iPhone. Enter the following commands: cd /usr/bin geounlock
7. This process should take about 2 minutes to complete. A lot of code will scroll by on the screen. Do not interrupt it. When you see "Enjoy your unlocked iPhone..." you can press the Home button to get back to the SpringBoard.
8. Press Settings, then turn Airplane Mode off. Put in your SIM(s) and test them.
