How to Control iTunes From Your iPhone Using Signal 1.1

These are step by step instructions on how to control iTunes from your iPhone using Signal 1.1. Signal 1.1 can be purchased here. Please note the demo that we use in this tutorial will only give you access to 2/3 of your iTunes library.

Step One
Download Signal 1.1. from here: Mac, Windows

Step Two
Double click the downloaded file to extract its contents. On a mac you will extract an application called Signal.

Step Three
Drag the Signal application you just extracted into your Applications folder.

Step Four
Double click the Signal application to launch it.

Step Five
A window will popup on your screen with an Http address. Take note of this address. You can now click the Hide button to hide the application.

Step Six
Now on your iPhone press to launch Safari from your SpringBoard.

Step Seven
Press to select the address bar and enter the Http address we were just provided in Step Five.

NOTE***: Notice the Http address we are using is your computers IP Address. A far better solution is to use your computer's host name in place of the IP Address, since your IP could change. You can find this by selecting Sharing from your System Preferences. In my case my host name is iclarifieds-macbook.local. Therefore, the address I would have put into safari is http://iclarifieds-macbook.local:3569

Step Eight
Notice you are now presented with an iTunes interface. Lets make a Bookmarklet so we can access this interface quickly from the SpringBoard. Press the + button at the bottom of the screen.

Step Nine
Press the large Add to Home Screen button that appears.

Step Ten
Name the Bookmarklet then press the Add button at the top right of the screen.

Step Eleven
Notice a new icon is present on the SpringBoard for Signal. Press the icon to launch it.

Step Twelve
Now press the Music Note at the top left to access your iTunes Library!

Step Thirteen
You browse your Music or Movie library and anything you select will play right on your computer!!!

Files Found In 1.1.4 Firmware Hint At iPhone in for Australia and Ireland

According to a tip we recently received, some new files in the 1.1.4 iPhone firmware may hint at the next locations for the iPhone to be released. New files pointing to possible carrier choices for Australia and Ireland may mean that the iPhone could be released in those countries by the end of the year.

In 1.1.4, located in /System/Library/Carrier Bundles/ are two new files: TMobile_at.bundle and O2_ie.bundle. In 1.1.3, the location contained:

ATT_US.bundle
O2_UK.bundle
Orange_France.bundle
TIM_Italy.bundle
TMobile_Germany.bundle

Based on this, it would be reasonable to expect a launch of the iPhone in Australia on the T-Mobile network and Ireland on the O2 network before the year's end.

Apple COO Gives Details On SDK, Unlocking, And More

Apple COO Tim Cook gave some new details on the SDK this upcoming week during a question and answer presentation at the Goldman Sachs Investment Symposium, where he shed some light on how Apple views unlocking and hacking, and a few extra tidbits on the iPhone SDK.

At the Q&A session, COO Tim Cook expresssed Apple's excitement about the SDK, referring to the iPhone as being “a platform not a product,” and that the SDK will “broaden the platform more, to the point where the only limit will be people’s imagination.”

He also said:

We started by getting developers to focus on Web 2.0 apps. There’s over a thousand of these today. But people also want to do more than that. As we got into the phone more and more, it became clear that we should release an SDK. This will make the product even more compelling. We’re super excited […]

In response to a question by the Goldman Sachs moderator at the event on when he expects to see the first (official) third-party apps, Cook said:

“We’re going to go into some more details at the event next week. I don’t want to take away the element of surprise.

He also made some interesting statements on jailbreaking and unlocking the iPhone:

“There will always be some level of hacking. There will always be a case where someone wants to run on a carrier. There are very few people who have unlocked the iPhone for use on a carrier other than AT&T in the US. […] I look at this ‘problem’ with a little bit of a smile. Having people stepping over each other for the phone isn’t a bad thing.”

Lastly, he said that the best thing that Apple could do right now to stop unlocking of the iPhone is to offer it in more countries.

“We’re going to (fight back) with software and some other ways, but offering the iPhone in more (geographical areas) is our best bet.”

He also talked about was how Apple was "all about people," saying that their work model of innovation is both the most challenging and rewarding.

"We run Apple in a fluid manner, where we move people where we need them. This is why you begin to see things on the phone that were developed for the Mac. You see Cover Flow, developed for the phone, in the Mac OS X. There's some much synergy in those area."

On the subject of last years iPhone price cut, he said:

"We saw that we had an incredible product that many people wanted. The barrier to some people buying it was the price. We were about to enter the holiday season. We decided we wanted to go for it. The more people we get under the iPhone tent, the more developers we get interested in developing, the more iPhones we sell."
