T-Mobile Germany Subsidizes iPhones

T-Mobile Germany Subsidizes iPhones

Folks living in Germany have it easy where the iPhone is concerned, thanks to T-Mobile who are offering the 8GB iPhone for a mere €99, as long as you purchase it with a 24-month contract. Granted, there are plenty of rumors floating around about a 3G iPhone being released sometime this year, but I’m sure the iPhone will still look good a couple of years down the road. Folks rocking to the monthly €89 Complete XL plan will benefit from 1,000 minutes, 300 SMS messages, and unlimited data. Does this news make you want to move to Germany? I’d prefer to go there during October for Oktoberfest while talking nonsense with my friends on the iPhone in a drunken stupor.

Apple Patents: Widget Organization, Virtual Keyboards, Episodic Games

A few more patent applications filed by Apple have been published by the United States Patent and Trademark Office, three of which were iPhone/iPod touch-related. Among them are a feature for rearranging a homescreen, a configuration for unique virtual keyboards that display for different tasks, such as writing Email, and most interestingly a patent for “episodic” gaming.

New Design For Next iPhone?

My friends over at The iPod Observer have recently been sent a picture of what seems to be a new iPhone design. The source of the photo claims that the new design will do away with the current iPhone's brushed aluminum back and instead sport a glossy black back. We've been assured by The iPod Observer that the image comes from an extremely reliable source. Also, the writing on the back of the phone not only suggests that it's not a current iPhone, but that it's not likely to be a "quickie" Photoshop job.

Edit: And no, it's not a colorware.

T-Mobile Germany cut 8GB iPhone price to $155

iPhoneT-Mobile Germany have surprised many by dropping the price of the 8GB iPhone.  New customers will now be able to pick up the handset for just €99 ($155), assuming they’re willing to sign up to a two-year, €89 ($139) a month contract.  The plan, called Complete XL, includes 1,000 voice minutes, 300 SMS messages and unlimited internet use via both EDGE and T-Mobile’s WiFi hotspots.  Apparently the plan will be available between April 7th and June 30th.

The carrier has also announced a new iPhone plan at the other end of the price scale.  Complete S is priced at €29 ($45) a month, and includes 50 minutes and 500MB of EDGE data; no SMS messages are bundled, and WiFi access at T-Mobile hotspots is a paid extra.  The iPhone itself costs €249 ($389).

It’s unclear whether this is a response to the rumored less-than-expected sales of the iPhone in Europe, or a sign that carriers are attempting to clear excess stock in preparation for the 3G iPhone.
