Whilst on the M: Metrics site, I spotted an interesting table relating to iPhone usage - check it out:

Look at those stats! The iPhone is showing definitively that it's leading the evolution of the Mobile device to a increasingly popular platform for consuming digital media. Awesome.

Simba - another GPS solution for the iPhone

It'd be great if the 3G iPhone hit the scene with a legit GPS receiver in tow. But, should the 3G iPhone fail to materialize and GPS hardware, it would be nice get GPS functionality via a hardware add-on.

The latest iPhone developer to get cozy with GPS, Simba, is showing off their beta-stage GPS solution for the iPhone. The video below shows the Simba GPS software showing a heading/combination display, accessible satellites, and mapping the iPhone's position on Google Maps.

From what we can see, the GPS dongle is still obviously in development. But, the important thing is that it works. Now, we'll just have to wait and see how Simba deals with Apple's iPhone developer program. Apple doesn't allow developers to mess with the iPhone dock connector, but the release of iPhone PwnageTool opens up the possibility that the third-party add-on will live to see the light of day - along with those other GPS solutions for the iPhone.

Enjoy the vid.

iPod Touch Runs Quake 3

iPod Touch Runs Quake 3

As much as I love Quake 3, the original Quake is still the best title in the franchise for me. This is where quad damage is really four times what a regular blast delivers, and who can forget the superior red armor that provides maximum protection? Precious memories aside, it seems as though someone has managed to create a port of Quake 3 which is able to run on the iPod touch, and presumably on the iPhone as well considering the similarities in architecture for both hardware. Firing is a simple process as all you need to do is tap the screen, but how about rocket jumping? Will it be smooth to execute? I would also be interested to know if the jump over the chasm in the inner room on Q3Tourney4 can still be accomplished here.

68% In China Heard Of iPhone, Not Crazy About High Price

Apple has done a good job of spreading the word of the iPhone to China, but will it be enough to overcome an initially high price? A recent survey by Pearl Research of consumers in China says probably not. Pearl Research recently conducted an online survey of 450 Chinese citizens, as well as 24 in-depth interviews in both first-tier and second-tier Chinese cities shows that 68% of respondents have heard of the iPhone, a surprisingly good percent considering Apple's relatively low marketshare of computers and media players in the country.
