Pre-release builds of iPhone OS 2.0 are capable of recognizing YouTube content embedded in Web pages, allowing the user to click through and view video in the dedicated YouTube application. The feature works in a fashion similar to that of the bookmarklet iTransmogrify. Only YouTube content that has been encoded in the H.264 format, required for playback on the iPhone, is viewable via this method.
The embedded YouTube functionality is brought about by the addition of a YouTube plug-in for MobileSafari included with iPhone OS 2.0. The plug-in could be a harbinger of other MobileSafari plug-ins from Apple or other third-parties.
Apple has added a contact search function to the new build of iPhone OS 2.0, 5A240d. The search function is also included with the revised iPhone Simulator that comes with the iPhone SDK build 9M2158a, beta 3. The search works much like iTunes search — a live-refining list of result.
With the introduction of an Interface Builder and revised APIs, which debuted in Apple’s second beta edition of the iPhone software development kit (SDK) yesterday, developers have a more complete set of tools for putting their code into realistic operation under the included “Aspen†Simulator.
Below is a video demonstration of PhotoBoard, an application that started its life under the “Jailbreak†umbrella, and was then ported to the official SDK. The program presents a grid surface upon which photos from the user library can be laid. The grid can then be navigated, and photos rotated and manipulated. It’s essentially akin to Microsoft’s Surface in look and feel.
These are instructions on how to add cover art preview images to media on your AppleTV using ATVFiles.
Notice right now there is a blank image above the media description. It is here that we will place a cover art image!
Step One Locate the cover art for your media (Movie, TV, CD). ATVFiles looks for cover art in either JPG, TIFF, or PNG formats. So make sure you cover art is one of those file types. Good sources are IMDB, Yahoo, CDCovers etc
Step Two Name the cover art image using the exact same name as the media file it relates to. For example if you have a movie file called 2012 Doomsday.avi then name the cover art image 2012 Doomsday.png.
IMPORTANT: If you are using folders to store each individual media file on your Apple TV then you would have to name the cover art folder.jpg or cover.jpg and put it into the appropriate folder.
Step Three Now all we have to do is copy the cover art image into the exact same folder as your media file. Use whatever method you used to transfer the media to your AppleTV in the first place. ie Terminal, WinSCP, Fugu etc
Step Four Reload the ATVFiles category you are viewing and you will see the cover art previewed on top of the media description!
NOTES*: There are some automatic ways of doing this which we will feature in the future. Stay tuned!
Rumor has it that the Dev Team will be updating the Pwnage tool in the near future via it's built-in automatic updating software. There is no word yet as to what all the update will include or when it will come out, but we thought you would like to know anyway. There's a screenshot of the new version after the break.
