USB Fever released an updated version to their Universal SIM Unlock Card, one the supports the iPhone. While seemingly far easier than a software unlock this $22.99 products raises some concerns. For one, on their list of supported phones the iPhone is listed as needing firmware 1.2.3, which was never released. Also, to get the card to fit in the adapter some cutting is required, so the process should not be attempted by the faint of heart. The card is advertised as compatible with most GSM phones, and it does support 3G cards.
In spite of Apple being shunning by NBC on iTunes, it seems that the peacock network has a heart for iPhone users. Recently (we're not sure when it happened) NBC has set up an iPhone portal on their site which provides full episodes of both The Office and 30 Rock.
NBC has streamed full episodes via NBC.com and Hulu.com for quite some time now, although the service was based upon flash. iPhone users were simply excluded from the fun until now.
Sprint has spent $100 million on an advertising campaign which directly targets the iPhone's weaknesses. The two ads we've seen are aimed at the iPhone's slow EDGE speeds and lack of true GPS support. The ads will begin running on May 9th and cost Sprint almost 40x the amount of a single 30 second superbowl ad. Ads following after the jump!
Now here's the thing about these two ads, slow data speeds and faux GPS are undoubtedly going to be addressed by the next rev of the iPhone. Honestly, we're not sure if we should laugh at Samsung, or feel sorry for them. Granted, Apple hasn't officially given any word on new iPhones, but with all the speculation lately, you'd think Sprint would wait and see what Apple has up their sleeves. There's no doubt that these ads will negatively influence some who are on the fence, but $100 mil. doesn't seem like a sensible amount to win over such a small minority.

Sprint is making good on their promise to spend $100 million to promote their new iPhone competitor, the Samsung Instinct. The advertisements start running on May 9th, but the commercials are now available to view on YouTube. The advertisements very obviously take aim at the iPhone, with some shots showing the two devices side by side.
The advertisements leverage the EV-DO and true GPS that are packed into the Instinct. Sprint is hoping to use that comparison to convince people to buy the Instinct and not the iPhone. Someone should tell Sprint that the 3G iPhone, which could very well have GPS, will pack those features. No doubt Sprint’s Rev. A is fast, but so is HSDPA.
The advertisement conveniently leaves out the obvious fact that the iPhone has more screen real estate, and that it has a capacitive touch screen. The Instinct will no doubt be a good phone, but it will just not be the same appeal and wonder that the iPhone brings. So if you were looking for a tried and true iPhone killer, the Instinct is close, but alas no cigar.
