A chinese factory girl whose photos appeared on a brand new iPhone will not be fired, according to a China.org.cn report.
"She is definitely not fired," an unidentified representative from Foxconn's factory in Shenzhen, southern China, told the newspaper Xiandai Kuaibao.
MacRumors forum user markm49uk initially posted finding the photos about a week ago:
Not sure if this is or is not the 'norm' but I just received my brand new iPhone here in the UK and once it had been activated on iTunes I found that the home screen (the screen you can personalise with a photo) already had a photo set against it !!!! It would appear that someone on the production line was having a bit of fun
The "iPhone girl" has yet to be traced; however, someone has created an English-language Web site, iPhonegirl.net, updated with global media reports on her. The site seems to be down at the moment though.

Some early screenshots of XiPhone have been posted online by iunlocked.org
-----
We have been working hard on creating a new easy to use user interface around the XPWN tool. We are proud to present some of the first screenshots of this new Windows application. We are also asking for some input. Please post any ideas or comments on features, look feel whatever you like below. The ultimate goal for this project is to release a quality piece of FREE software that everyone can benifit from. While we have the utmost respect for for CMW and his work on WinPWN. The goal here is to take in the suggestions from the iPhone community and create a new Visual wrapper for XPWN. Some of the features we expect it to have are:
* Auto downloading of stock firmware files from apple’s site (no need to hunt for it then select it)
* Wizard based modern GUI (created with .net 2.0), and Vista Style UI.
* Export of firmware settings so users can pass around an XML file which contains a configuration that works for them.
* Auto updates to the XiPhone software.
* Community based wallpapers used for Bootscreen, Restore screen and others
* Enabling / Disabling of options available based on the device you select.
Again we are looking for feed back on the featureset, and screenshots. If you have ideas on something you would like to see added to this please let us know.

AT&T Inc. today announced expanded international data offerings for iPhone customers. The press release follows....
-----
AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) today announced expanded international data offerings to help keep iPhone customers connected around the world. Beginning tomorrow, AT&T will offer two new plans that accommodate iPhone customers' increasing reliance on data services while traveling abroad. The two new plans, which offer 100 megabytes (MB) or 200 MB a month, can potentially save customers hundreds of dollars compared to pay-per-use international data roaming charges.
For discounted international data usage in 67 countries(1), the 100 MB iPhone plan is available for an additional $119.99 a month, while the 200 MB plan costs an additional $199.99 a month(2). These new plans are in addition to existing plans for smartphones, including iPhone, which offer 20 MB and 50 MB in the same countries. There are no long-term commitments required, so customers can add or remove these plans to their existing packages on an as-needed basis.

Rogers and Fido customers may be in for a huge shock when those with blocked Internet access receive a bill for thousands of dollars.
Rogers customer service has reached a disgusting new low. Customers with the 2G iPhone are being billing for thousands of dollars in data access fees. These charges are being placed on customers who not only have edge turned off but also those who have requested Internet access blocked on their cellular account.
As an example, a fido customer recently related to me that he was called by customer service demanding $1600 in data access fees for only 29 MB. This was impossible he said because his iPhone had edge turned off and he had called 5 months earlier and requested all internet access be blocked on his account.
The fido rep informed him that background applications on his phone were accessing the Internet via a new apn they setup for the iPhone 3g! Apparently Rogers has opened a new port to connect to the Internet and did not block it for all those customers who requesting their Internet be blocked. Even after a lookup to confirm a call was indeed made to block Internet access, the rep refused to admit this was an error of theirs and is holding the client responsible for the charges unless he agrees to sign up for a data plan.
Through further investigation a source working at fido has informed me that this is a common and intentional practice. Rogers is purposely not fully blocking Internet access when requested by it's customers. This isn't only for the users of a 2g iPhone. Those purchasing the 3g iPhone without data will soon find a huge bill on their hands. By this method Rogers is pressuring iPhone clients into signing up for their over priced dataplan. My source says he is swamped with these situations on a daily basis.
And to make things even worse Rogers is increasing the price of a data plan from $30/month to $100/month at the end of August. Since Rogers has a GSM monoply in Canada customers have no other alternate even if the 3G iPhone is unlocked.
