Since you'll be standing in line for quite a while, it would be wise to chose which plan you want before you line up outside your local store. If you're new to the iPhone and are still having a hard time choosing which one you want, here's a little tool to help you decide. It's called BillShrink, and it can help you pick one of the new AT&T iPhone 3G plans based on the number of text messages you use, the number of lines you want, etc., and it will tell you how much it will cost. You can check it out here.
With the new in-store activation policy, one of the chief concerns for many that were planning to pick up an iPhone 3G on launch day are how long it will take Apple and AT&T to move through the inevitably long lines of people waiting to get their iPhone 3G on July 11th. Most (us included) have been guessing that it would take a long time, and now Apple is saying the concerns may be accurate.
This afternoon there was a piece on Global TV about new higher text messaging rates coming down the pipe from Rogers (and by extension Fido), Bell and Telus. Evidently, the new rates will charge $0.15 per text message — receiving or sending, if you don’t already have a text messaging plan.
But that’s not what interested me most. The second part of the segment went on to talk about Rogers, the iPhone, and how customers are going nuclear over their text messaging rates. It highlighted ruinediphone.ca, the iPhone in Canada blog, and a rather amusing open letter to Ted Rogers featuring a ranting puppet. I liked it. It wasn’t bust-my-gut funny, but it was amusing enough in its delvery that I felt the need to share it. Peep the vid below.
Gizmodo said earlier that they have managed to get the new iPhone 2.0 software working for the iPhone 3G using the unreleased modified version of iTunes, but as of yet all of the over-the-air push syncing capabilities will not work until later tomorrow. That's still true, but they were able to show us a short video of the simple MobileMe set-up process in the iPhone 2.0 software. You can check out the video at Gizmodo.
