I never heard about this concept before. But it definitely makes sense. At the moment you see that all manufacturers are looking for ways to make using their phones as easy as possible. For that you actually need both touchscreen and a keypad but there is limited space as the phone should not be too big. So having some kind of 2D image outside your phone seems to be the solution.
