Now the UK’s National Mobile Phone Crime Unit (NMPCU) says that the fear of being robbed of your iPhone while out in public, should not be substantial, although the MICAF (Mobile Industry Crime Action Forum) previously said that it’s the other way around. Simply being aware of your surroundings is your best defense, according to the NMPCU.

Inspector Chris Paice of the NMPCU told our source: “Most of the iPhones stolen have been the result of shoplifting rather than street crime, robberies or the use of violence.

Mr. Paice went on to say: “Operation Prestige was a huge success particularly as it was run over the winter with darker evenings and the clocks going back. We did not carry out an operation on this scale last year and so have little to compare it with. However we did see a marked decrease in robberies and street crimes during the period that the operation ran compared to the same period last year.” — Overall, 324 devices were recovered, with a total of 56 arrests made to yield them.

If this is the case, perhaps you won’t need to petition for an upgraded iPhone including tazer. The best way to prevent something bad happening, is to keep your back to a wall and don’t wave your iPhone around visibly. If nothing else, keep the receipt and hope Apple will replace it.
