iLuv’s iMM173 Multi-Dock iPhone Alarm Clock

iLuv (Don’t worry, I’ve never heard of them either) has just recently announced their new dual-dock iPod/iPhone alarm clock system. The iMM173 allows for two iPod’s (or iPhone’s) to be connected on the dual top connectors.

Apart from the dual-docks, this alarm clock comes with 5 watt jAura sound, an aux input, an easy-to-see large external time display, and dual alarms, too. All this, in a package that cost no more than an MSRP of $129, which will most likely lower as it becomes available via retail this September.

iPhone’s Calculator Pi Button Issues

A small warning to those whom are using the iPhone’s (or iPod Touch for that matter) calculator for schooling and such. Do not put full trust on the scientific calculator app, especially when it comes to using the calculator’s pi (3.14159..) button.

A TUAW reader recently tipped about the issue, showing that when you type ? × 2 + 5 = into the calculator you get 11.283… (the correct answer). However, when you reverse the pi and 2, entering 2 × ? + 5, the answer given is 7.

What’s odd about this is that if you enter in pi manually (which is 3.1415926..), instead of simply hitting the pi button, you will get the correct answer for the two equations above, either way.

Have a read about the bug here.

‘Tris’ to be Removed from App Store August 27th

Noah Witherspoon has agreed to have Tris removed from the iPhone App Store on Wednesday because of copyright infringement. The developers of Tetris offer their own app on the App Store for just short of $10, which Tris had been released to the public via the App Store for free of charge.

EA was not impressed when they had found out about Tris, and are now asking Noah to have it removed. Noah has since then agreed to have it removed, and will have it taken off of the App Store by Wednesday afternoon.

Well — I’ve received notice from Apple that they’ve been contacted by The Tetris® Company about Tris. That, I’m afraid, is essentially game over. Do they have a case? No. Not really. I am convinced that if it went to court, the “copyright” claim would get thrown out completely. The trademark, perhaps not — but if I changed the name, to e.g. “Trys”, that would be much harder for them to argue.

Sad thing is, Tris was actually better than EA’s version of Tetris in a few ways, such as loading time, and the possibility to have iPod music playing in the background while playing the game.

I suggest that those who would like to get a copy of the #1 selling “free” App Store game of the past few days to get their butts out of bed and get downloading. (Sorry to those whom read this too late.)

However do have it known that Noah does want to offer the game at some point in the future, and is now taking the time to evaluate his options.

Three New iPhone 3G TV Spots; Lonely Planet, Cro Mag, and Vicinity

Apple has recently released three new iPhone 3G television spots, which are now being aired across America.

The first of the spots was named “Lonely Planet”, and demo’s an App Store application which helps with speaking other languages.

The second spot is named “Cro Mag”, which demo’s a 3D App Store racing game.

The third of the three, “Vicinity”, demo’s what seems to be a location finder type of application from the App Store.

A Culinary Journey Into Apple’s Corporate Food Court

0826 Boom 380

Though everything Apple gets covered with fanatical precision, life inside One Infinite Loop these days is something of a black box for non-Appleites. Steve Jobs has made secrecy job one. Which just makes Jon Phillips’s article for MacLife about dining in the Apple corporate food court that much more fun. This is a must-read:

Oh. My. GOD. My first impression was that I had somehow found my way into the Prepared Foods Department of Whole Foods. Station upon station upon station offered a mind-boggling variety of international cuisine. There were kiosks for burritos, pizza, pasta, sushi, hot entrées, burgers, sandwiches, salads, smoothies, frozen yogurt. They even had a gelato bar.

Then there were the kiosks for Spanish tapas and paellas. For British bangers and mushy peas. For Ethiopian wat and injera bread. And for traditional Inuit preparations of caribou, walrus and seal. Amazing.

OK, truth be told, I didn’t see any kiosks for food from Spain, England, Ethiopia or the Canadian Arctic. But because the Caffe Mac food selection was so incredibly plentiful and varied, I couldn’t help but imagine such exotic cuisines. And, in fact, because this new world order of lunch possibilities was so overwhelming, I found myself paralyzed with indecision. Pizza or pasta? A sandwich or sushi? Or maybe a bold trifecta of blended and/or frozen delights?

Read on, dear Mac lover. Read on.
