For the past week there have been rumblings about some sort of super special announcement from Fido about special revised terms for early upgraders. Loads of Fido customers were rather put out with the release of the iPhone because they hadn’t made it far enough through their contracts to be eligible for an upgrade. Fido has responded with a new set of terms that, while better, are still going to cheese some people off. Their new terms are as follows:
Policy Details
Customer Profile Eligibility Criteria
Active agreement more than 12 months
Outisde of renewal window
Customer subject to administration fee.(See table below.)
Active agreement less than 12 months.
No agreement rebate on phone in the last 12 months.(excluding City Fido Unlimited and $70 Unlimited Calls Anywhere in Canada).
Eligible without administration fee.
Active agreement less than 12 months.
No agreement rebate on phone in the last 12 months.(City Fido Unlimited and $70 Unlimited Calls Anywhere in Canada plans only).
Eligible without administration fee.
Must agree to remove monthly system access fee discount (DTLIR).
Number of months completed on current agreement
Fee if customer is currently on a 2-year agreement
Fee if customer is currently on a 3-year agreement
13 - 15 months
$35
$110
16 - 18 months
$25
$85
19 - 21 months
N/A (use LHO)
$60
In short, you are eligible for an upgrade if: A) You’ve been in your contract for 13 months, or B) You’ve been in your contract less than 13 months but did not get a subsidized price on the phone you bought with your package. If you are eligible, then the upgrade fee is noted in the table above based on 2- and 3-year contracts respectively. I can only assume that you are also eligible if you did not buy a phone when you signed on the dotted line (i.e. used a phone from a previous contract’s tenure or used a phone you bought elsewhere).
If you’re under 13 months and you bought a phone at a subsidized price, you’re still stuck with it until you’ve done your minimum time. Although the din of tin cups rattling against the bars has died down, there are still those who are pretty dissatisfied with the business. I can’t say I blame them.

Updated iPhone wallpaper sized for iPhone's
These are instructions on how to unlock and jailbreak your 2.0, 2G iPhone using Windows and WinPwn.
To follow this tutorial you will need to have iTunes 7.7 installed (make sure to reboot). Also, you may need to download and install
.Net Framework if you are on Windows XP.
Step OneCreate a folder on your desktop called Pwnage. In it place the following files:
WinPwn 2.0 ,
3.9BL ,
4.6BL , and the
latest 2.0 firmware.
Step TwoInstall WinPwn by extracting the downloaded zip from Step One and running the setup executable. Once WinPwn has been installed it will put a shortcut icon on your desktop. Double click to launch the application.
Step Three
Once WinPwn has opened click the Browse .ipsw button.
Step FourLocate the 2.0 firmware file (iPhone1,1_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw) from the Pwnage folder on your desktop and click Open.
Step Five
WinPwn will check the firmware to make sure its valid. Now click the IPSW Builder button.
Step Six
The IPSW Builder window will open to the Applications tab. Check to select Cydia and if you are not on AT&T then check to select YouTube Fix.
Step Seven
Click to select the Custom Images tab. From here you can can select
your own boot images.
Step EightClick to select the Custom Payload tab. From this tab you can select custom payloads you have created to be automatically installed. We will discuss this in a future tutorial.
Step NineClick to select the Advanced tab. Check to select: Activate Phone, Enable Baseband update, and Unlock baseband.

We will also need to load the Bootloader files. Click the Bootloader 3.9 button and then select the BL39.bin file in your Pwnage Folder. Then click the Bootloader 4.6 button and select the BL46.bin file in your Pwnage Folder.

Step Ten
Click the Build .ipsw button at the bottom left to build your custom ipsw firmware file. Navigate to your Pwnage folder and click the Save button.
Step ElevenOnce WinPwn has finished creating your custom firmware then click the iPwner button from the main menu.
Step TwelveSelect the custom firmware file we just built from the Pwnage folder on your desktop and click the Open button.
Step Thirteen
You will then be notified that your iTunes has been Pwned!
Step Fourteen
Next we will need to put the iPhone in the DFU mode and restore using iTunes. To put your iPhone into DFU mode please follow these instructions: Press and hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons for 10 seconds. At this point the screen will turn black, and the iPhone will appear to be off.
Continue holding the Home button until a recovery mode graphic pops up via iTunes (Step 15-fifteen), then let go of the Home button. You may need to try this more than once if you don't get the recovery mode pop up the first time. It happens, just try again.
Step Fifteen
iTunes will prompt you that you are in recovery mode.

Hold down Shift and click the Restore button in iTunes.

A popup window will appear asking you to select your firmware. Select the Custom firmware file we saved in the Pwnage folder and then click the Open button.

When it finishes everything you should have a jailbroken and unlocked 1st generation iPhone running 2.0 firmware with the App Store.

You heard it right folks. ZodTTD will actually be porting the popular Quake 1 to the iPhone portable device. Kewl!
Check out a video of the game in progress below:
Here’s a quick excerpt from the man himself:
I took a moment to relax and ported Quake 1 natively to the iPhone and iPod Touch last night. I call it quake4iphone. Everything is implemented including network play. This video is of Quake4iphone running one of 3 demos included in the shareware Quake 1 WAD files. It’s also taken before I implemented controls, which are similar to how my other apps such as the GBA emulator gpSPhone work in portrait mode.
No word on if he’ll be releasing it once completed, but I don’t see why he wouldn’t. We’ll keep you informed on future updates of ZodTTD’s Quake port for the iPhone.
It’s no Quake III, but hell, it’ll do for now. By all means, it’s only a cellphone for frig sakes. (”only”… ha ha!)

The first of the three ads was named “Everyone”, and can be viewed here. This ad talks about how the new iPhone 3G has 3G access but costs half the price.
The second of the ads was named “Unslow”, and can be viewed here. This ad explains that 3G is internet access that’s “twice as fast” as EDGE.
Lastly, the third ad was named “Work Friendly”, and can be viewed here. This ad talks about how the iPhone 3G has enterprise features for business users like push calender, email, and contacts.
