O2 Sales Director Stephen Shurrock has said in a message to potential customers that they are expecting an iPhone 3G shortage that will last weeks due an unexpectedly high demand for the device. According to the message, their systems were knocked out during the swarm of online orders, and stores have since sold out of stock.

The reviews are in for the iPhone 3G. The same guys who got special treatment from Apple last year once again got their paws on the latest and greatest from Apple. David Pogue of the New York Times, Ed Baig of USA Today, and Walt Mossberg of the Wall Street Journal all had a chance to play with the iPhone 3G for about two weeks.

Earlier today it was found that someone at iPhonePortugal had posted a set of iPhone 3G unboxing photos, raising the question of how someone got their hands on an iPhone 3G. Now, that little punk over at Boy Genius Report got his hands on a 3G iPhone too, and he's posted a fantastically crisp, clear set of iPhone 3G photos, raising the question of how all of these iPhone 3Gs are slipping out of Apple's tight grip. Pictures after the break.

Blogger Erica Sadun, writing for The Unofficial Apple Weblog, says there are several good reasons not to bother getting swept up in iPhone 3G fever.
Calling the phone “horribly priced,” especially in view of pricey carrier data plans that run upwards of $30 per month “to visit a few websites,” Sadun says everyone waiting in the rain right now outside the Apple Store in New York, the hordes of people in the UK who have already bought out O2’s supply of pre-orders, and the masses of customers worldwide who are expected to make Friday Apple’s biggest retail day ever - will be paying “the early adopter tax” for something that will be better and cheaper soon.
Acknowledging the upgrade to browsing speed promised by connectivity to the 3G network, Sadun believes unless “the speed issue [is] do-or-die for you, this is the upgrade to skip.”

We have some bad news for our friends in the U.K. who were hoping to get one of the white iPhone 3Gs. O2 has revealed earlier that the white iPhone 3G will not be available from O2 on July 11th, but will "come later". In fact, Carphone Warehouse adds that "that the white 16GB model won’t be available at launch" anywhere in the UK. This makes us wonder if we'll be seeing the fabled white iPhone anywhere at launch, or for some time.
