PSX Emulator Goes Public

First we had NES, then we had GBA, now we have PS1 emulation on the iPhone and iPod touch. Opening up the iPhone to PS1 really shows the iPhone’s gaming capabilities. While still needed to be optimized to run faster, I guess you could play a game. It’s only about 10-15FPS right now, but as we saw from the other emulators, after time we eventually obtained playable FPS rates on most games.

Playstation emulator ported to iPhone & iPod Touch

Gaming emulators for the iPhone and iPod Touch will soon swell in ranks as psx4all, an original-Playstation emulator, joins the fray.  Currently pre-beta, the software works on the Apple devices but is currently being tweaked so as to increase speed as well as screen placement and scaling.  Controls, too, are due to come in for some attention; as you can see from the screenshots, packing all of the original joypad functionality onto a touchscreen - even when that screen has MultiTouch capabilities - makes for a complicated system, and developer zodttd is planning on scything out some of the extraneous buttons.

gpsPhone has come a long way since the beginning, with practically a new update everyday. The dev team appears to be working very hard on getting this to a stable, reliable state. In v1.0.0, major changes that effect gameplay went down.

Crayon Physics ported to the iPhone

If there’s one thing I love, it’s games with non-traditional graphics.  So many titles these days rely on “almost looks real!” true-to-life renders, often at the expense of gameplay itself.  Hence why I’m glad to see Crayon Physics for the iPhone (or iPod Touch) - just like in the PC version you can draw shapes, dots and lines and then interact with them in a number of levels.  It’s the handiwork of r4m0n and he’s been a busy guy with multiple updates and bug-fixes since the project started five days ago.

iApp-a-Day: November 29th - Hum

Hum is the 29th application of the iApp-a-Day project by Sean Heber. Nearing the end of the month, it looks like Sean is running out of ideas as this little application does pretty much nothing. It’s apparently an application where you can make robot sounds or something of that sort. If you move the sliders fast, you can jam to some random 8-bit tunes that are being made.
