
Some very good news from the Dev Team earlier today: they now have persistent nucleus tasks running on an iPhone 3G. What does this mean, you ask? Well, if you're looking for a technical explanation, it means they can now spawn background tasks. If you're a normal person, you just need to know that this means they are very, very close to a software unlock for the iPhone 3G. They no longer have any foreseeable obstacles. The iPhone Dev Team has updated their blog concerning the predicted 2.2 software update for the iPhone and iPod touch, reminding everyone that if you're concerned about being able to jailbreak, and especially unlock, your iPhone, then it is strongly suggested that you hold off on installing the update until they give the all clear.

Rip Dev has released a new version of his Installer.app 4 beta for jailbroken iPhones. The update adds several features we heard about like a package rating system, as well as support for proxies, improved error reporting, and a fixed app icon badge. More details after the break.

So the virtual keyboard on the iPhone offers one main advantage over a physichal keyboard in you can change the buttons and what they do depending on what you need them for. Apple's said that from day one, and they're right, but there are just some things about a physichal keyboard that a screen can't replicate. One user decided to take matters into his own hands and hack his iPhone to work with an external keyboard. (Vid after the break.)
