iPhone 3.0 FlashNews: Tethering over USB and Bluetooth Hacked

Few hour ago, a iPhone developer was “a href=”http://twitter.com/stroughtonsmith”hacking around/a” with the carrier bundle files and iPhone with the beta firmware 3.0 loaded. He somehow first managed to activate the a href=”http://twitpic.com/27×55″tethering preferences/a. Not only that, he was also able to actually tether his iPhone 3G to his laptop over USB. Based on the preference panel, it appears that you will be able to tether via a href=”http://twitpic.com/27zds”USB or Bluetooth./abr /br /Tethering is a feature that allows you to share your iPhone’s internet connection with your laptop, but has not been an allowed feature up until iPhone 3.0. Even with iPhone 3.0, mobile carriers generally charge an extra fee in the U.S. to allow tethering access.br /br /Apple admitted yesterday that they had built in tethering support into the 3.0 release but had not yet coordinated with mobile carriers.br /br /via macrumors.combr /br /em style=”font-family: arial;”***Looking for an scratch proof iPhone 3G case? Safari+ Bookmarklets For Mobile Safari Let You Search Text, Translate, More

A new tool has been released for your iPhone and iPod Touch that use bookmarklets to add the same kind of functionality you can get with a desktop browser. Safari+ bookmarklets use specialized JavaScript (much like Pastebud, Instapaper and iPastelet) bookmarklets that let you do things like open a link in a new window, translate between languages, speed-scrolling, and more.

iPhone Hacking: Enable Japanese Emoticons (AKA Emojicons)

Last week’s 2.2 software update included quite a few goodies for most iPhone owners, but one in particular is only available to those in Japan. Unbeknownst to most of us in the States, Apple’s added emojicons (or Japanese emoticons), although they’re only available to customers in Japan. Thankfully Steven Troughton-Smith has figured out that a simple property list edit is all that’s required. For the full instructions, read on.

You’ll need a jailbroken iPhone and enough knowledge to grab the correct file, edit it properly, and put it back without pulling your hair out.
