If the news that the Modbook is shipping fills you with little more than sorrow that your savings don’t amount to the $2,290 required to get one into your grubby, artistic hands, then how about DIY surgery on your current MacBook to add in some Wacom-powered touchscreen joy. Over at Instructables there’s a guide for doing just that, with an Apple G4 that has seen better days integrated with a Wacom USB tablet via some tape and software tweaking.

Somebody tell Steve: the hackers are getting faster. Less than a day has passed since Apple pushed the 1.1.2 firmware update out the door, and already a hacker by the handle of planetbeing has managed to Jailbreak the iPod Touch. As this screenshot indicates, the PMP is using the latest version of Apple’s software but, since to transfer a screenshot you need a Jailbroken phone running third-party software, it’s obviously been surreptitiously finagled.

How about an ultraportable notebook with Mac OS X Leopard, great battery life and all for around $299? Well, not quite, but jkOnTheRun’s Kevin Tofel has been experimenting with ways to access his Mac system on the move via his latest toy: ASUS’ Eee. In case you’ve been out of touch for the past few months (or maybe have your permanent Mac-only filters set to ‘high’!) but the Eee is a Linux-powered super compact laptop intended for new users or people looking for a cheap second machine. Kevin has been playing with its ability to connect via VNC to OS X’s Screen Sharing - basically a cutesy way of describing VNC - hence this image of what looks like an Eee running Leopard.
