Apple this morning posted three new television spots on their website, advertising the new iPhone 3G internationally. These ads are viewable via the Apple website.
The first of the three ads was named “Everyone”, and can be viewed here. This ad talks about how the new iPhone 3G has 3G access but costs half the price.
The second of the ads was named “Unslow”, and can be viewed here. This ad explains that 3G is internet access that’s “twice as fast” as EDGE.
Lastly, the third ad was named “Work Friendly”, and can be viewed here. This ad talks about how the iPhone 3G has enterprise features for business users like push calender, email, and contacts.

Supposedly, the video shown below, shot by someone at gsmphone-unlocking (who I can only assume is named Mr. Blurrycam), shows an iPhone 3G purportedly unlocked via software and running on both the Rogers and Fido networks.
So let’s do a bit of multiple choice here. How do you think they did it?
1. They worked out their own unlock method
2. They somehow managed to snag some early code from the Dev Team
3. They obtained a factory-unlocked model from abroad and are passing it off as a software-unlock for the purposes of attention whoring
Before you lock in your vote, have a look at the video. No information is given about their alleged method of unlock, and there is a shameless web URL and Montreal phone number plastered all over the place.
Don’t all push “3″ at once.

For those of you who didn’t want to decided to wait instead of braving the hacktastic convolutions of the Mac-to-Win Pwnage 2.0 kludge (WacPwn?), you can slide your butt back from the edge of your seat, because WinPwn has been unleashed to the general public. As with the Mac version, this will let Windows users jailbreak any iPod Touch or iPhone with firmware up to and including 2.0.
It will also unlock any first-gen iPhone running up to and including firmware 2.0, but as expected it is not yet capable of unlocking the iPhone 3G due to the updated baseband.
Those who have WinPwn 1.0 are advised to uninstall it before going ahead and installing this. Obviously, you also need iTunes 7.7 and a valid firmware IPSW to Pwn. If you are doing this on AT&T you do not need to activate or install the YouTube fix.
Also remember that a great deal (most?) of the toolchain-developed apps won’t work on 2.0 until the authors update them for the new firmware. As far as I know, Installer, Cydia and NES.app have all been updated to 2.0. Beyond that, you’re on your own.
Note that as of right now, winpwn.org seems to be having troubles, presumably due to high traffic. You can download WinPwn from this direct link, or from the dreaded RapidShare (.de or .com) mirrors.

If you’re wondering whether it might be a good time to head to the nearest Apple Store to join the queue for a new iPhone, the folks at Top Muffin offer a comprehensive iPhone Availability Tracker.
The page is powered by data from Apple’s own availability widget and is updated every 15 minutes. The accuracy of Apple’s availability information has been questioned by some in the chaotic first two weeks since the 3G model launch, prompting Top Muffin to recommend calling stores first to confirm stock on-hand.

AT&T has authorized stores in its Northern California region to begin taking iPhone pre-sale orders with a promise of 72hr availability, according to the manager of one of the region’s busiest stores. In an email sent to store managers this morning, the wireless carrier said stores could promise customers they would have a phone in 3 days if they sign up for new service or upgrade their eligible hardware in-store and pass the requisite credit checks to establish a new two year service contract. Customers get a call from the store in three days when their phone arrives and are required to return to the store to complete service activation and pick up the handset.
The store manager said all AT&T retail stores in his region have been out of stock since the first wave of phones sold out in the days after its initial release on July 11. “It’s a marketing ploy by Apple,” he said, responding to a question about the lack of inventory at AT&T stores. “They release one or two hundred thousand phones and spread them all over and then do it again once those are sold out.” Describing the scenes of chaos in his store in the days after the launch, he said, “We actually prefer direct-ship. It keeps the crowds down so we can service our other customers and we don’t have to call the police to help with crowd control.”
Long lines are still present at the few Apple Stores in the country with inventory today, as iPhone buyers remain wiling to stand in line for two to three hours to make purchases directly from Apple.
Earlier today AT&T said iPhone 3G sales during the first twelve days were nearly double that of last year, despite shortages that have seen backorders up to three weeks at some of its retail stores nationwide. A company spokesman confirmed the official policy indicating a 13 to 14 day wait on direct-ship orders this afternoon, but indicated some regions could have greater availability than others.
