Installer and Kate for 2.0 iPhone Status

The Rip Dev team has provided some information regarding the highly anticipated release of Installer v4.0
-----
As you surely know by now, Pwnage Tool 2.0 is out. And for now, it has no Installer 4.0 in it.

This is because we have decided to not release an undertested product into the wild -we don’t want any mess on the phone this time. So Installer 4.0 will come out soon… as soon as we’re confident it functions properly, we will release it - and trust us, we are not going to delay it for a long time.

Meanwhile, all of the popular tools that can’t get to App Store for various reasons will have to be redone for firmware 2.0 - mostly because the inner workings of the system (in large, the way user interface works) have changed a lot since 1.1.x, so it will take some time for the authors to update and test their stuff. We expect the Installer to be ready by the time there’s something to offer you.

A lyrical off-topic. Why Big Bear in the post title and what the heck has it to do with the rest? The answer is simple - every iPhone OS release has it’s own codename (the name of the volume on the disk image file containing firmware files). 1.1.4 used to be LittleBear, and 2.0, you guessed it, is BigBear.

Now what about Kate? It is 90% ported to 2.0 as of now and we are finishing the remaining work and then testing it - so expect it to be out for Installer 4.0 in a week or two. Of course, you will not have to purchase it again if you already did (and if you have changed your iPhone to 3G model, email our sales department and they will arrange the license transfer for you).

Thanks for your patience and support!

Why The iPod Will Always Lead The Race

The Zune Video Player, although not as popular as the iPod, it's definitely known of. Unforunately for Microsoft, it seems impossible to overcome the power of Apple's iPods to take the number one spot on the market. But number two isn't so bad, now is it? Microsoft has put out a quality MP3 Player, the Zune Video Player. Theres quite a few features on this baby compared to the iPod, which may make for a little more complicated experience.

Lets start with the name which is sort of odd, the "Zune", but it works. It's virtually the same price regarding almost all sizes. When it first came out, not very many people knew really what it was, the advertising and media for the Zune Video Player wasn't done well, which definitely took a part in what the Zune is today, 2nd place. That's a shame because even though the Zune could be a highly marketable product, due to it's uninformational advertisements giving no solid information on the Zune, no one paid attention because nothing stood out.

The colors that the Zune Video Player come in aren't very special. They come in black, brown, and white. This is another aspect that may not have appealed to the public so much, because who wants a brown mp3 player? But once you get inside the real product, you start to see what shines. The Zune can play up to 14 hours of music, and 5 hours of video. Compared to the iPod, the music is close to equal and it doubles the time while watching videos.

The Zune Video Player is very easy to use. Theres no manual because you don't need one. The quality of the sound is great, Another awesome feature is that you can get desktop marketplace and software, allowing you to access the marketplace through your desktop.

A few key features that are better than the iPod are that the Zune Video Player display is 3" compared to the iPod which is 2.5'. This product also holds up longer, it can take a few more drops than the iPod. A really unique option is being able to change your background to whatever photo you want. The last few are that the Zune has Wi-Fi, an FM Radio, and the Marketplace costs $15 per month compared to the iPod at .99 per song. Although the iTunes marketplace does have 1.5 million more songs than the Zune marketplace has, the fact that you have to pay $100 just to get 100 songs in comparison to $14.99 for as many songs as you want is huge. That's a lot of money saving there.

Overall, this MP3 Player is an excellent product that has many qualities that surpass the iPod. But due to poor marketing, the Zune will never be as popular as the iPod.

Mac Tutorials On How To Use The PWNAGE Tool 2.0.1 and Brief Windows Notes

iPhone: How to Jailbreak Your 2.0 3G iPhone (Mac)

iPhone: How to Unlock/Jailbreak Your 2.0 2G iPhone (Mac)

If you have a PC and are itching to use the PWNAGE tool, please use the notes below. If you do not understand what is going on please do not try this and just wait for a GUI windows release. This will not unlock your 3G iPhone, just jailbreak it. You will need to have a PWNED iPhone to do this. The notes below briefly describe how to achieve this.

Preface: This guide is a how to on taking a 1.1.4 (unlocked & jailbroken) iphone up to 2.0 (PWNED) iphone. It is meant for 2g iPhone users who are on the Windows OS to upgrade safely without the need for a Mac. The tools listed in the guide below are all publicly available at the links below.

Step 1: Use WinPWN 1.0 To PWN Your 1.1.4 iPhone. If you need WinPWN Get it at:

http://www.winpwn.com/files/winpwn_1.0.0.3_RC1_Setup.zip

WinPWN will ask for an IPSW you should use the 1.1.4 IPSW. Here is the link:

[Grab it Here]

Step 2: Install BootNeuter (Available Via Installer use the old 1.0 version it basically preps the phone).

Step 3: Run BootNeuter and have it Neuter your iphone

Step 4: Make sure your iTunes version is at 7.7

Step 5: Grab a pre-created IPSW Made with PWNAGE 2.0 Mac. If you don't have one made you can grab one here:

http://thepiratebay.org/tor/4305453/iThor__s_iPhone_2.0_Custom_Firmware_Vanilla_(5A347)

Step 6: Grab ZiPhone (Yes its Crap But hey it will get us into recovery mode) (http://download.ziphone.org)

Step 7: Run Ziphone & Jump your iPhone into NORMAL Recovery mode (available via advanced settings area in Ziphone) -- This is the most straightforward way to get it into the proper restore mode

Step 8: In iTunes Shift+Click the Restore button and find your custom IPSW Firmware file.

Step 9: The restore occurs (You should see a crazy pineapple while its running on your iphone). Then you should see bootneuter automatically come up (this is pwnage unlocking, activating and jail breaking your iphone).

NOTE: DFU Mode did NOT work for me so to be safe stick with normal restore mode.

If this process seems confusing to you, please do not try it.
