One of the popular categories here at iPhone Hacks since the launch has been games for the iPhone. The reason for this has not been because Apple has been rolling out terrific games for their revolutionary gadget but due to the hard work put in by iPhone hacking geniuses who have brought us the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) emulator, the Game Boy Advance (GBA) emulator and more recently ScummVM, the emulation engine that allows you to play popular LucasArts and Sierra games on the iPhone. The good news on the native iPhone games continues as MacNN has reported recently that…

First we had NES, then we had GBA, now we have PS1 emulation on the iPhone and iPod touch. Opening up the iPhone to PS1 really shows the iPhone’s gaming capabilities. While still needed to be optimized to run faster, I guess you could play a game. It’s only about 10-15FPS right now, but as we saw from the other emulators, after time we eventually obtained playable FPS rates on most games. ÂÂÂ

Only a few weeks ago we’ve reported that PSX4iPhone, a Playstation 1 emulator for the iPhone, is being developed, and “might” be available soon.
The time sure flies fast, as now its coder, zodttd, who is also responsible for the iPhone Gameboy emulator, has released a public downloadable version of the PSX4iPhone program that should play “most” Playstation games.
According to its creator, the emulator: “has a good compatibility rate and features save states and a dynarec for added performance.”

Since Playstation 1 games are widely available online being “abandonware“, and iPhone allows for some excellent multitouch gaming functionality, one can only know where this underground emulators trend will lead…. Dreamcast games emulator, we’re hoping.
You can download PSX4iPhone as a manual installation below — you should know how to install it, otherwise don’t try to — while the program’s creator announces that “it should shortly be available via Installer.app“, so you might want to wait for that instead of experimenting with iPhone SSH. And of course, you can reach the creator’s page at http://zodttd.com and follow announcements on new developments, as this is still of course a project under development.

Hudson, the creator of Bomberman, one of the most successful franchises in the history of gaming, made good on its promise and has now launched a gaming portal dedicated to the iPhone and iPod touch.
It is called Do the Hudson, referring to the ’70s disco classic ‘Do the Hustle’. Since Hudson is based in Japan, at the moment the site is only available in Japanese language.

Its content is limited to three games that can be played on-line: puzzle that features Bomberman himself, called “Megutte Pon!”, Where’s Wally-esque title “Meijin wo Sagase!”, and a spot-the-difference-’em-up known as “Dokka Kawatta?”. And if you don’t understand Japanese, you can listen to some classic music from Hudson’s back catalogue.
As our friends from Pocket Gamer predict, the company won’t offer much more until it will be able to earn from its games downloads — that is when they can run as an intrinsic part of iPhone or iPod touch. And this won’t happen before Apple releases the iPhone Software Development Kit in February 2008.
The internet address of the Hudson iPhone/iPod Touch site is touch.hudson.co.jp
