As the girls’ guide to gadgets ShinyShiny reports from the CES 2008, a service provider with the name Tessco runs a competition to win a Case-mate diamond iPhone case. This competition is sure to bring more popularity to the CES, in the end.

It’s easy to enter - all the contestants have to do to win their shiny iPhone case is to visit Tessco’s stand and put their names down for a price draw. With a little bit of luck they can walk away with something that would make every other iPhone seen on the streets look dull and bleak.

Windows Mobile Flirts with iPhone (via PointUI’s Home)

iPhone World Ad: Unlimited iPhone Downloads!.

Assuming you’re one of the many (slowly dying breed…) Windows Mobile users, you probably get the occaisional “Wow, why don’t you have an iPhone yet?” and shrug it off. Then again, why would you read a website based upon iPhones? I thought so, you sly dog, you.

pointui.jpg

Home, made by PointUI, turns your Windows Mobile into an iPhone-like state, with alot of the same capability and apps that you don’t currently get access to. Mainly, added is the ability to widen the area used to activate options and sliders, so you don’t need to use a stylus this time around.

Home allows you to one-touch activate calls, emails, text, and music, as well as easily manage sound, wireless, and battery functions. Additionally, the ability to switch between running programs instantly. See? If you only had an iPhone by now, you wouldn’t need this software…

This is only a small amount of the features available: A full list is available on Home’s website here.

Sony to challenge Apple iPhone’s multitouch screen

You know that things are getting hot in the touchscreen industry when Japanese giant Sony is showing off a multitouch prototype LCD display that beats the iPhone’s capabilities.

tech.co.uk reports on having had a chance to see Sony’s latest touchscreen display prototype — it handles five inputs at a time, which is two more than Apple iPhone can handle.

According to tech.co.uk, using the multitouch screen using three fingers was much easier than using one or two (like you would with your iPhone).

Sony’s new LCD measures 3.5 inches in diagonal with a 640 x 480 screen resolution and has optical sensors embedded in the screen. If Sony Ericsson was to use it, it could surely be a worthy competitor to Apple’s iPhone.

Could mobile phone displays be one day as simple to use as this multitouch touchless sensor screen demonstration?

LG Viewty - more popular in Europe than iPhone?

According to www.dialaphone.co.uk the popularity of iPhone in Europe has been quashed by it’s main rival-LG Viewty. If the official sales figures are to be compared Apple is unlikely to bit it’s competitor which has sold 310,000 LG Viewty handsets since it’s launch 5 weeks ago. The O2 official reports are saying that only “tens of thousands” of iPhones were sold in the UK-Europe’s biggest market.

As www.dialaphone.co.uk reports Apple has blocked the iPhone sales figures from being reported by Gfk, the UK research agency. Gfk collect EPOS (Electronic point of sale) data from all the major UK mobile phone retailers, then produces reports which are commercially available. This is supposed to be the first time that these sort of are being concealed.

Further www.dialaphone.co.uk enumerates the main reasons of LG’s success on the British market. LG’s product is considered to offer more because of having a 5 mega-pixel camera, being able to operate in 3g (HSDPA) networks and having a Xenon flash what allows it’s users to take pictures at night.

Furthermore LG Viewty is available in most of the networks and is cheaper not to mention the fact that it is offered on a shorter contract. Dialaphone claims that Apple might have been more successful with it’s product if it would use a similar sales strategy.

Two New BlackBerrys Appear as Patents, iPhone Rivals Galore

Although it’s behind in terms of release and technology, RIM (Research In Motion) is seemingly catching up, and some new perusing has netted two new patents for the BlackBerry line.

An analyst hinted at the release of two new devices, one of which features a touch screen, much like the iPhone. Of the two devices, one is titled ‘Touchscreen 1.0′, which obviously features a touch screen, and it was said that it features a rollaway keyboard featuring the BlackBerry’s usual QWERTY interface.

The other device, Pearl 2.0 (note: these are not official names, just notes on the patents) is noted to be much like the original Pearl, but with a numeric keyboard that can rotate 90 degrees.

We believe that the next two generation BlackBerry devices will offer some interesting hardware enhancements that are positioned to target two markets; the touch screen and feature phone segment of the handset market,” says Ray Sharma, Analyst at GMP Securities.

Since these are patents, there is no scheduled release date, but signs would likely point to mid-2008 — just in time to take on the 3G iPhone.
