RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is an great way to keep up on the latest news. What’s better, is when you can check the your favorite RSS feeds natively on your iPhone by way of Google Reader. What could be better than that? The new Feeds application is looking to bring that functionality to the table.

It is in beta right now, but it’s looking very promising. There is no need to go through and manually subscribe to your feeds again, or import an opml file. All you have to do, is enter your Google Reader user name and password, and you’re in. All your feeds are right there, and also, they are synced back to Google Reader. When you read an article on your iPhone, Google Reader reflects that.
It is a great application, and it will be exciting to see what features it brings when it comes out of beta. To get Feeds on Installer, you will need to add this source:
http://424f.com/iphone/repository
After you have added this source, Feeds will show up under the Network category.

VoIP company fring has announced what it’s calling the world’s first publicly available mobile VoIP app for the iPhone, putting the beta version out for download. That means they’ve beaten rival Jajah - who recently announced their intention to release an iPhone VoIP client over the Summer - although Jajah are using the official SDK to develop their software whereas fring currently requires a Jailbroken or otherwise hacked “open” handset. The client uses WiFi for VoIP calls, rather than the EDGE data connection, in response to AT&T’s classification of VoIP as a “conference call service” contrary to their contract.

Developed in conjunction with the Holon Institute of Technology academic research labs in Israel, calls between fring clients (which are already available for handsets running Symbian 8 or 9, Windows Mobile 5 or 6, or UIQ) are free while those to landlines and mobiles are apparently priced competitively compared to AT&T’s own tariffs. Instant Messaging has also been included, and the fring client is compatible with Skype, MSN, Google Talk, ICQ, Twitter, AIM and Yahoo! contacts. Obviously since this is still a R&D app there could be some bugs present, so fring are looking for feedback and suggestions.
You can install the fring VoIP client through Installer on your iPhone. Add http://fring.com/iphone.xml as a source and the app should show up among the options. As ever, if you do try it out, let us know how you get on on in the comments!

iPhone SDK build 9M2158a, beta 3 is now available. iPhone Atlas got word from developers that iPhones legally running the pre-release 2.0 beta software, build 5A225c, were remotely disabled by Apple and can be restored to full functionality using the new build of the device-installable OS labeled 5A240d. iPhones unlocked and “pwned” are not affected by the Apple’s remote lock down.

The iPhone Dev Team strikes at Apple’s core with the Pwnage tool. The PWN, which is publicaly available later today, Sunday March 30th, allows you to flash custom unsigned firmware onto the iPhone or iPod touch. Not only will PWN properly hack the iPhone and iPod touch, the iPhone Dev Team claims, “any subsequent firmware releases will also be vulnerable to “Pwnage”…like 1.2 (2.0) beta.” Is the iPhone Dev Team getting too arrogant for their own good or is it possible they’re that good to believe they’ve developed a tool that’s Jobs proof? Apple, I believe the ball is now in your court. Click over to watch the video and view screen shots of PWN in action.

According to sources close to iPhone Atlas, we could see a public leak of the iPhone 2.0 as early as this weekend. The update is currently officially available only to folks accepted into Apple’s $99 iPhone Developer program or who have been selected to beta test the release’s enterprise functionality.
Installation of the iPhone OS 1.2 beta generally requires a special signature from Apple, but an underground team has discovered a method for bypassing this signature and installing a modified edition of OS 1.2. This installation method requires the use of “Pwnage,” a tool that leverages an exploit found in the lower levels of the iPhone/iPod Touch bootloader. Exercising the exploit allows these devices to run unsigned code. With this capability in place, Pwnage can modify the iPhone OS 1.2 IPSW (installation file), pre-activating and pre-jailbreaking it.
