TIP: Easy unlock needs fake activation needed

To perform an unlock you need an activated iPhone. For those who has not already activated their iPhone with AT&T -and are not planning to- you need to conduct a fake activation. To do this, conduct these two steps:
*** warning you are on your own now***

1. you'll need to follow the excellent instructions at ModMyiPhone
2. download and install a program called iNdependence.

For example in case of you are an European, Asian, Aussie, Kiwi etc. and bought on your bussiness or holiday trip in the US an iPhone without an AT$T monthly plan (ofcourse). As far as I know you'll have to pay a US$175 early cancellation fee to get out of your AT&T contract but I am not pretty sure if you have to pay when you cancel it on the moment of purchase. Anyone got the answer?
