iPhone World:
As News.com reports, AT&T announced on Wednesday that it will soon offer its broadband subscribers unlimited free Wi-Fi access in its hotspots and a new supercharged 10Mbps tier of internet access service.
Free Wi-Fi will be offered only to AT&T broadband subscribers who subscribe to services with 1.5Mbps downloads or higher. Subscribers to AT&T wireless service will not be offered free Wi-Fi.

AT&T is reported to have more than 10,000 Wi-Fi hot spots in the U.S. in locations like McDonald’s restaurants, Barnes & Noble bookstores, coffee shops, and sporting venues. The carrier has been offering free Wi-Fi access to its higher-speed broadband customers since last year.
With that new offer AT&T is likely to bundle cell phone service with their broadband service. As news.com reports it might also be a way of competing with other cellular providers like T-Mobile USA. T-Mobile offers its subscribers access to its more than 8,000 Wi-Fi hot spots. Also, T-Mobile gives its customers the ability to switch between Wi-Fi and the cell phone network while they are at home.
AT&T also announced that it would offer a new home broadband service with 10Mbps downloads and 1.5Mbps uploads. New service has been called U-verse. U-verse has been designed to deliver TV and broadband over the same Internet connection to the home. That new service would costs $55 a month. U-verse subscribers also qualify to receive free Wi-Fi access.

During this year’s Macworld Steve Jobs announced that Apple has sold more than 4 million iPhones since its launch. Despite owning only 2 percent of the smart-phone market and less than 1 percent of the overall mobile-phone market, iPhone still manages to keep up its reputation as the main shaker.
As the New York Times reports, Google announced that it received more traffic from iPhones this Christmas than from any other mobile device. One of the main reasons why iPhone users have been visiting the web so often could be the fact that software developers are still limited to creating Web-based applications. Will that change when Apple will introduce it’s iPhone SDK in February and native applications will be able to run on it without the user having to hack the device?

Apple has not revealed, however, how many iPhone users have bought music using iPhone’s iTunes interface. As we learn from other sources this has not appeared to be iPhone users’ favourite activity. A recent M:Metrics study, for example, shows that 20 percent of mobile phone users internationally listen to music on their mobile devices. However, most of them gets their music from other sources than a mobile music service like iTunes. They prefer to download their tunes from their computers’ archives or other sources.
Music industry is keeping an eye open on the iPhone. Music labels are concerned with the fact that more and more mobile phone users are sharing music files or obtaining them without using official music services. Their income from the carrier deals may be seriously reduced if more mobile devices become more open-access like iPhone. The executive of one of the labels has put it this way: “As more phones become Wi-Fi-enabled, the need to go through official pipes to pay the piper is not always going to be there.”
Some companies like Alltel for example are already offering services that allow customers to stream and download digital-rights-management-free digital music files from their home computer to their mobile phone from anywhere in the operator’s service area.

DriveSavers appears to be the first company out there to be offering recovery services for Apple iPhone. Not in the sense of flashing your corrupted firmware for you because you’re too lazy to do it yourself, but rather actual iPhone storage recovery services. And this could be very handy for people that keep a lot of notes, photos, and other personal stuff on their iPhones, because a lot of us do end up doing something to our phones after which they stop working.

Solid state drives (SSD)—built into iPhones—use less power, run silently and are more resistant to shock than common hard drives. However, this technology can also be compromised by user error, mismanagement and software or hardware failure. Last year, DriveSavers can do recoveries of iPhones that lost data because of either deleted files or corrupted file systems.
“iPhones can go anywhere, capturing precious moments through digital photos, gathering new contacts and creating important notes. Unfortunately, if the newly created data is lost before it is synchronized with the computer, it can be devastating to the user. Now that we’ve added iPhones to our growing list of recovery services, customers have peace of mind that there is somewhere to go to get their critical iPhone data back,” said Scott Gaidano, president of DriveSavers Data Recovery
