Apple Store after sales service

A couple of years ago my Nokia N93 took some damage to one of the microphones, after a visit to my local Nokia Service Center I patiently waited for my beloved N93 to return to all shiny and new. I waited, I waited some more, phoned the service centre and was told to wait a bit longer. Eventually, after a mere 3 months, my phone was returned to me. Imagine my anger to discover that there was no improvement, the microphone was still obviously broken. After a 20 minute chat with a manager and another 4 days wait the phone was replaced.

After such a bad experience I was not looking forward to my trip to the Apple Store yesterday. With 2 broken iPhones in hand I approached the Genius Bar of the Southampton store.

Here’s how things went…

Me: I need to replace 2 iPhones, 1 first gen and 1 3G.

Genius: Do you have an appointment sir?

Me: Erm, no. I had no idea that I would need one.

Genius: Let me see if I can book you in today… No appointments left today, sorry.

Me: I’ve just traveled over an hour to get here! Surely someone can help me?

Genius: I’m about to start my last appointment of the day, let me see if I can get someone else to help you sir.

Within 35 minutes, another Apple Genius appeared, gave the iPhones a quick once over (peering down the headphone jack with an endoscope! What’s all that about?), agreed to replace both phones, activated them and thanked me for my patience. As you can see there is quite a difference in the level of customer service between each phone vendor. Thankfully, for iPhone users, Apple is first class in this regard.

If you have a faulty iPhone or even, like me, a 3G with a slight blemish on the casing and an odd mark on the screen, do not hesitate to visit your local Apple Genius Bar, you wont regret it. Just remember to back up your iPhone first!

Toy Bot Diaries: Entry 1 Demo Coming Mid-Next Week (September 2nd - 4th)

Following up with the previous post stating that a demo of Toy Bot Diaries was to be released “soon”, we are now more confident as to when the game will be released.

According to Shylo
of IUGO Mobile Entertainment, the demo version of T.B.D. Entry 1 is to be released between Tuesday, September 2nd and Thursday, September 4th.

Keep on the look-out for the free version (or should I call it, the “lite” version) of the first entry of Toy Bot Diaries!

If you’re not one to check the App Store every day (or even more than once a day), don’t worry. Just as long as you check Touch Podium often enough, you should be in the loop, as we’ll most certainly keep you informed as to when the free version of the game is made available to us all. Personally, I cannot wait to give this game a try.

(Thanks
to Shylo Smith of IUGO Mobile Entertainment)

Some Much Needed iControlPad Updates & Prototype Photos

Remember iControlPad: The add-on control pad for the iPhone (and iPod Touch)? We talked about it way back in May.

Well, finally after three months of waiting, another update has made the rounds of the internet. The developers at iControlPad have posted some updates, this time with some hardware photographs of their current prototype.

iControlPad will most likely be selling for $30.00 or less, and will most likely be available by early next year sometime.

It is said that the final product will have a glossy, smooth finish to it, so don’t judge the products final looks on what you see in the photos above.

Here are a few more points of interest:

Astraware’s ‘Golden Skull’ Game

Astraware, publishers of the oh-so-popular GTS World Racing, have been hard at work with another release for the App Store. This one’s called Golden Skull, and is very similar to Bejeweled in every way.

The goal of this game is to try and get rid of the jewels, while grabbing all the gold coins as you pass them by. Upon downloading this game, you take on the job of finding the Golden Skull, so the name of the game says.

If you’re familiar with the Bejeweled 2 genre of jewel-matching games,
then you’re well on your way to understanding Golden Skull. In this
game, you’re introduced to a character who has gotten into debt and
needs money, so he takes on the job of finding the Golden Skull. In
each stop along the way, you tap groups of jewels of the same color to
make them disappear, which accumulates points — more points for more
jewels eliminated. When you get to a certain point level, you get a
gold coin. Five gold coins gets you to the next village on your journey.

Have a look at TUAW’s preview of the game here.

Check out a video of the game in action just below:

The game should be available for download later on today.
