Over 100,000 iPhone users AppSnapp jailbreak their iPhone v1.1.1 handsets
Released on Sunday AppSnapp iPhone jailbreak software triggered a wave of almost 150.000 downloads. A reporter spoke with Nicholas “Drudge” Penree-one of the creators of that ingenuous piece of software. According to his estimations 144,000 downloads reported so far may have resulted in over 100.000 handsets being ready to run software developed outside of Apple Inc.
The first obstacle in hackers campaign for free access to iPhone operating system was thwarted by Apple’s iPhone v1.1.1 firmware. After the installation of iPhone firmware v1.1.1 all third-party applications were disabled, while iPhones became unable of running on different than AT&T SIM cards.

So far Apple was rather reluctant to make its “iconic” iPhone available to third-party software developers. With nearly 250,000 iPhones bought with the intention of unlocking them their concern, however, seems to be justified. In order to minimize losses caused by that activity Apple has imposed some restrictions on iPhone sales allowing a single customer to buy only two iPhone handsets and pay for them only with debit or credit cards.
And in order to diversify its software offers without any major financial investment Apple decided to release an official software developer’s kit for iPhone and iPod Touch by February of next year, in order to allow iPhone programs to be created without resorting to iPhone hacking.
