Learn All the Apple IPhone Gestures Here - Look

Understanding iPhone Gestures

You can interact with the iPhone by touching the screen. Touching the screen in unique ways, called gestures, determine which actions the iPhone will take.

Learning the basic gestures

The basic gestures you should be aware of include the following:

Tap: To start an application, simply tap the touchscreen with your finger on the relevant application icon; for example the Safari icon on the Home screen.

Double-Tap: A quick double-tap of your finger has a special effect in different types of applications. For example in Safari, performing a double-tab (a single tap works too) over a username/password field on a particular web page will zoom-in on that portion of the page plus display the on-screen keyboard to assist you in filling in the form fields. A double-tap on a video or YouTube video enlarges the video while a second double-tap will restore or zoom-out the video to its original view.

Drag: While reading an email or viewing the content of a webpage, you can slowly drag your finger across the screen either horizontally or vertically to scroll the text on-screen in your chosen direction.

Flick: A flick is similar to a drag except you move your finger faster and lift your finger off the screen right after. The end result will be a scroll in the chosen direction only a lot faster.

Delete: Here is a quick an easy way to delete items such as a video, song or email, use a flick (see above) except in a horizontal direction over the particular name of the item. This will reveal a red Delete button enabling you to remove the selected item. If you tap on the Delete button you will be given an opportunity to confirm. If you change your mind, either tap the cancel button (when asked to confirm), or tap anywhere other than on the red Delete button to cancel.

Pinch: You use a pinch action to zoom in and out of a particular area of the screen. To perform a Pinch, place two fingers on the screen and spread them apart (to zoom in) or squeeze your fingers togeather (to zoom out). You may find that this is similar to a double-tap only the difference is that a Pinch gives you greater control. A video showing the Pinch gesture can be viewed in the video section at www.iphonegestures.com

Learn the above gestures to give you complete control over your iPhone. Look out for more gestures including how to videos at my site (link below in the Resource Box).

Line Rider Officially Coming to the iPhone This Fall! But Will it be Free?…

Remember Flying Rider, the Line Rider clone? You remember how the developers of Line Rider were hassling the developer of Flying Rider to remove it from the App Store, right?

Well, I’m anxious to say this evening, that the removal of Flying Rider was not just for copyright’s sake, albeit, that is part of the case.

Good news is, inXile is working on their own version for release at the App Store soon. Soon being, sometime this fall.

What we’ve yet to know is if inXile will force users to pay to play Line Rider, unlike Flying Rider which was in-turn, free.

I’ve taken the time to e-mail the folks over at inXile, asking if this was the case. I’ve yet to receive a response in regards to this, however don’t worry, we’ll keep you informed as soon as a reply has been given.

iPhone 2.0.2 Update: No 3G Reception Fix — But Keyboard, Backup, App Loading Much Better

Picture 5.png

UPDATE: I just downloaded the 2.0.2 update myself, and overall, it does seem an improvement. Backup is now much quicker — less than a minute with my 16-Gbyte iPhone 3G (which has about a dozen third-party apps installed). Apps seem snappier. The Contacts app, which was annoyingly slow, now loads instantly and scrolls smoothly with no lags. Keyboard also seems much better. It used to hangup occassionally, especially in Mail, but so far no lags at all (however, many people report that the lag gets progressively worse until a hard reset). It’s too early to tell if 3G reception problems are fixed — but then I’ve not had consistent problems. It’s always been unpredictably spotty.

With widespread complaints of iPhone 3G reception issues, you’d think Apple would say whether the latest iPhone software update — version 2.0.2, released Monday afternoon — addresses connectivity problems.

But no. In inimitable Apple style, the release note for the 2.0.2 update says simply that it includes ‘bug fixes.” Nothing more. Thanks Apple. So helpful.

To top it off, 2.0.2 apparently doesn’t fix 3G reception. According to commenters at Apple’s discussion forums, 3G reception is just as bad, and in some cases, worse than before.

“I was getting none-to-2 bars on 3G here in my home, stationary position,” reports commenter Jettergear. “After the 2.0.2 I am getting nothing but a solid NO SERVICE.”

However, it’s not all bad. Others say that the painful lags with the onscreen keyboard and scrolling are much improved.

“The phone is A LOT snappier now,” reports commenter alangsam. “Contacts works much snappier. Email is much snappier - almost instant. SMS is almost instant. Overall BIG improvement.”
