Snippets for 2008-09-09
- Apple’s currently playing music… ROCK music. No Beatles, though. Maybe later, eh? #
- Apple Store’s down, obviously. And so are the lights now. Wooo! #
- Music is the theme for today, apparently. (Big shock!) iTunes - 8.5m+ songs, 125k+ podcasts, 30k+ TV shows, 3000+ apps. Nice. #
- New today: hD TV shows, and NBC returns. HUGE STANDING OVATION! (This is a lie.) #
- SD shows: $1.99. HD for $2.99. Also: iTunes 8, with some new browsing and ‘genius’ software for recommending music. #
- iTunes 8: Grid view, as per the rumors. Can set by artist and scrub across them like a photo album in iPhoto. #
- iTunes 8: Genius “Automatically makes playlists from songs in your library that go great together - with just one click”. #
- iTunes 8: Genius info sent anon. Sounds like Apple’s version of last.fm welded to iTunes. Lots of shareware authors just started crying. #
- iTunes 8: Genius - click a button to get a playlist. Restrict by track number. Buy links rather overt in the Genius Sidebar. Hmm. #
- iTunes 8 is available today, for anyone that cares and that’s not already addicted to last.fm. #
- Zzzzingg! Jobs just dissed everyone else’s player market share. iPod: 73.4%. Microsoft: 2.6%. Bill Gates is already plotting revenge. #
- Jobs moans about third-party manufacturers announcing products before Apple wants them to. Poor dear. (Jobs looks OK, by the way, if thin.) #
- iPod Classic major news: 80 GB > 120 GB! 160 GB is gone! An, er, that’s it. 30,000 songs on the 120 GB, which is, uh, less than on th … #
- iPod Classic news: 80 GB > 120 GB! 160 GB is gone! And, er, that’s it. 30,000 songs on the 120 GB, which is, uh, less than on the 160. #
- New nano, pretty much as per the rumors. Skinny, tall, like the gen 2. Aluminium. Really thin. Can create Genius playlists on it. #
- Push-hold center button for Genius playlist. Voice recording from attached mics. New UI. Photos/vids in landscape mode. #
- Accelerometer in nano. Rotate the thing 90 degrees to get Cover Flow, like with the iPhone. And, er, shake to shuffle. Seriously. #
- Shake to shuffle–what happens if you’re in the gym, or running? Battery: 24hr music/4hr vid. Aaand the nano demo’s done. #
- Prices for nano: $199 for 16 GB, $149 for 8GB. Bright rainbow colors in addition to aluminium. #
- New accessories: headphones and armbands, a mic for voice recording, and in-ear headphones. #
- iPod Touch: the new iPod Touch has landed. Thinner. Integrated volume control. Genius playlist. Integrated speaker. #
- iPod touch has Nike + iPod built in - you just need to add the shoe transmitter. #
- App store: 100 million downloads in 60 days. Available in 62 countries. #
- Phil Schiller’s demoing games: Spore Origins, Real Soccer 2009. The soccer game overlays d-pads and buttons. Hmm. iControlPad, anyone? #
- Strange to see a games machine where you cover half the display with your thumbs. The graphics look pretty enough, though - better than NDS. #
- More games: Need For Speed: Undercover. Looks nice. Out in two months. #
- iPod touch battery life: 36hrs music, 6hrs vid. Environmental aspects are being bigged up (mercury free, etc.) Greenpeace will be happy. #
- New prices: 8 GB: $229, 16 GB: $299, 32GB: $399. New firmware, free to 2.0 owners. “Funnest iPod ever” strapline for the new ad. #
- iPhone owners to get 2.1 bug-fix - better battery life, less crashing, fewer gremlins, speedier back-ups. Free on Friday. #
- Still waiting for something BIG to happen… And it’s… a guest music spot from Jack Johnson. Uh… (#1 male artist in iTunes sales.) #
- Oh, and Jobs said this was the best iPod line-up and best version of iTunes. Not the most controversial Jobs statement to date. #
- Jack Johnson’s playing another song, rocking out in acoustic fashion. We’re hoping the businessmen here start a mosh pit. #
- Steve’s back on the stage! Excitement is building! #
